AIUEC submits 10-point charter to PM

The All India University Employees’ Confederation (AIUEC), a body of nonteaching employees of 186 universities of 24 States on Wednesday submitted a 10-point charter of demands to the Prime Minister through the VCs of their universities, said AIUEC president and former MP Bhabani Shankar Hota.

The association observed June 14 as “Demand Day”. The demands included  restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS), uniform pay scale and service conditions for more than three lakh nonteaching employees of universities, employee’s representation in university bodies, creation of adequate posts and regularisation of services of casual, contractual and outsourced employees.

The AIUEC said that 50% of nonteaching posts are lying vacant in the universities and the Centre is not taking any step to fill up them. On the other hand, the Center is implementing the policy of commoditisation and privatisation of universities which would sound death knell to higher education in the country. The AIUEC threatened to embark upon  a national agitation if the demands are not fulfilled.
