In a press release here, local convener of AiNNI (All India Network of NGOs and Individuals) working with national and State human rights institutions) advocate Chandranath Dani has said that the NHRC has not been playing its role actively in the country. It did not discharge its duty during the Manipur ethnic riot and became only active after the SC directed it to act.
He also complained that the NHRC is not consulting with the NGOs and individuals working for the protection of human rights in the country.
Advocate Henri Tiphagne, national convener of AiNNi, has given a call to NGOs not to attend the NGO meeting called by NHRC on September 5 as this meeting is only a symbolic one meant to show NGO relation before the G-20 meeting delegates and to gain membership to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) which has been deferred for a year in March 2023 due to it not being in compliance with the UN Paris Principles.
