Ailing girl killed while treated by sorcerer

In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl, identified as Sanjukta Jaipuria, a Plus II student of lakhanpur’s Mahima College, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

The body was recovered from her house on Friday at Bijapalli village under Rengali police station. Police arrested two of Sanjukta’s cousin sisters in this connection.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was tonsured first and later beaten to death by a heavy stone-like object. The body was also marked with ashes and the condition of the room hinted that some kind of ritualistic prayer was performed in the room.

When contacted, Brajrajnagar SDPO NC Dandsena said, “We have detained two of the victim’s cousin sisters, Soudamini (22) and Santhoshini Jaipuria (23), who are both students of the Belpahar College and can reach to some conclusion only after a thorough investigation.”

Dandsena revealed that Sanjukta was not keeping well. Hence, her family members contacted two sorcerers known for conducting the sorcery. The rituals were allegedly conducted late on Thursday night to ward off evil spirits, believed to be hovering over the girl.

The SDPO further added that the body had been sent for post-mortem and the two cousins would be sent to judicial custody on Saturday.
