The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar is all set to start health services for the commoners from this August. At the first phase, 75 beds would be provided in five specialised departments with 15 beds for each department.
“Initially, we have commissioned five specialised departments like Cancer, Surgery, Medicine, Gynecology and Eye. Each department has been added with 15 beds. We are preparing to inaugurate it on August 15,” said AIIMS, Bhubaneswar Director Dr Ashok Mohapatra.
Sources said that in the primary stage, the AIIMS started these five departments which used to gather more numbers of patients than others and later on health services would be extended to other departments. There would be 50 general beds, 12 casual beds, 10-seat Intensive Care Units (ICU) and three recovering beds. These units are equipped with all modern treatment facilities like other AIIMSs in the country.
The institute on Monday opened nine speciality clinics including sleep clinic, high-risk pregnancy, paediatric nephro-urology, head and neck oncology, lung cancer, infertility, hydrocephalus-spina bifida and cerebral palsy clinics. It has also opened its Out Patients Department (OPD) for two departments, dental and ophthalmology.
