The safety of the AIIMS Bhubaneswar structure is in question after a portion of concrete chunk fell off the outdoor ceiling at ticket counter in the premises of the hospital on Friday.
Although, no causality was reported, patients and their relatives standing in queue for token at the counter were in a state of panic on Saturday morning.
This was the second incident reported just a day after the wall of the AIIMS’ Casualty Trauma Care Unit had caved in on Thursday.
According to reports, a large portion of the roof ceiling suddenly fell on an empty space of the floor when relatives of patients were waiting in a long beeline to collect tokens at the counter on Friday morning. Fortunately, nobody was standing at the empty site. Patients and visitors started running out of the counter.
The AIIMS Director and senior officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Following an assessment, technicians said the particular portion of the roof ceiling was affected as its knot ad bolt fell.
