AIDWA protests rising onion, dal prices in State

All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) members on Sundayprotested against the rising prices of onion and pulses, stating that both the Central and State Governments have failed in controlling prices of essential commodities.

AIDWA vice-president Sudha Sundar Raman said at a Press meet here that there is rampant corruption in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

AIDWA members demanded supply of 2 kg of dal at Rs80 under PDS as dal’s current market price is Rs200 per kg. In this festive season, the public should get essential commodities like sugar, potato maida, suji, etc., at lower prices, they added.

Besides, the body demanded that all citizens of Odisha, except income tax payers, be included under the Food Security Act and farmers get all their infrastructures at affordable price.

The AIDWA members threatened to stage agitation in coming days if both the Governments fail to protect the interest of consumers.

Among others, Tapasi Praharaj, Pushpa Das and Sandhya Das Majumdar were present at the meet.

The association members would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard, they said.
