Students of the Ravenshaw University here under the banner of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a demonstration in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Monday demanding an end to the online readmission system and withdrawal of hiked re-admission fees in the university.

The university authorities had hiked the readmission fees by two fold this year. later, coming under the pressure of students’ agitation led by the AIDSO, the authorities had slashed the fees, but not completely, alleged the agitated students.

“In many departments, the fee is increased by `50 to `150. The university authorities have introduced the online re-admission mechanism in a bid to increase the fees without any hassles in coming days”,

said AIDSO member Subhasmita Sahoo.

The move would lead to commercialisation of education and many students would be deprived of getting admission in the varsity, she added.

The students’ body threatened to intensify its stir in coming days if the authorities do not bring an end to the online readmission process.
