Students of the MKCG Medical College here have intensified their agitation against the decision to accommodate the students of Jaring Sardar Rajas Medical College of Kalahandi in the MBBS course.
The agitating students are determined not to allow the students of JSRMC to take admission in their college.
Notably, the Orissa High Court had earlier passed an order directing the State Government to accommodate 85 students of 1st year and 24 students of second year MBBS course of Jaring Sardar Rajas Medical College of Bhavanipatna at MKCG Medical College, Brahmapur and VSS Medical College at Burla. The students of MKCG argued that when the Medical Council of India (MCI) had earlier rejected the demand of the MKCG administration for increase of seats in MBBS course on the ground of non availability of required infrastructure and manpower, how it can permit the students of a private medical college to get admission into this course.
They said that it will create serious accommodation problem in classrooms and hostels, thereby causing inconvenience to the existing students. The agitating students of MKCG have said that by taking huge donations the private medical college admitted the students without infrastructure. Now after closure of the college, accommodating these students again in Government medical college is unjust, they said.
Meanwhile, the MKCG students have locked the front door of the medical college, besides its main gate and office of the Principal. Hundreds of students holding placard and chanting anti-Government slogans are continuing their dharana and have demanded that both the State Government and the court reconsider their decision.
“We are determined not to allow the students of JSRMC in the MKCG. Both the senior and PG students of MKCG are supporting us,” said the agitating students. According to information available, the agitating students have decided to boycott healthcare service.
