Agitating Koraput lawyers to meet HC Chief Justice

The members of the district bar association here, who have been demanding establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in the undivided Koraput region, have decided to appraise the matter before the HC Chief Justice and seek his intervention.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Central Action Committee (CAC) of lawyers at the bar association office here on Sunday. According to the lawyers, Chief Justice Adarsh Goel is scheduled to visit Kalahandi district on February 27. On the way to Kalahandi, he will stay for some hours at the Koraput circuit house. The lawyers have decided to meet Goel and present him a memorandum citing their demands.

Notably, the lawyers from the region had boycotted court proceedings from August 22 to September 26 last year demanding establishment of a permanent bench of the High Court in the undivided Koraput district.

The lawyers, backed by members of other outfits, had observed a bandh in undivided Koraput on September 4 last year. Thereafter, they had decided to skip court proceedings on the last two days of every month in a bid to mount pressure on the Government for conceding to their demand.

Bar association members Jayadev Parida from Umerkote, N Ahmmed from Nabarangapur, Mani Patnaik from Kotpad, Biresh Patnaik, Trinath Singhlal, Prabhakar Patnaik and others from Jeypore Bar were present.
