Aggrieved medicos hold mass rally in city

Aggrieved medicos of MKCG Medical College, Brahmapur, Veer Surendra Sai Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), Burla and Hi-Tech Medical College, Bhubaneswar on Thursday intensified their agitation at the State capital here to press their demand of a fair decision over relocation of students of the Kalahandi Jaringi-based Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC) in their colleges.

A large number agitating students of the two Government-run medical colleges and one private medical college holding placards in hands took out a procession from Ram Mandir Square and staged protest at PMG Square here in front of the Assembly. The students have been opposing the proposed accommodation of the SMRC students in their colleges. They demanded that counselling procedure be followed while accommodating the SRMC students in the two Government medical colleges. They said Government medical seats should be allocated to deserving candidates as per the merit list of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) of 2013.

last month, the Orissa High Court had directed for relocation of the SRMC students in the VSS and MKCG colleges, which is protested by students of both the Government medical colleges.

The agitating students said when the Medical Council of India (MCI) has been rejecting proposals of both the colleges for increasing seats citing lack of infrastructure and manpower, relocation of more students would only add to the existing problems. They said there would be problems in sharing classrooms, laboratories and hostels.

Meanwhile, students of Hi-Tech said if SRMC students can be accommodated in two Government medical colleges, then they too have a right to get admission into these institutions as they had scored better ranks in NEET, 2013.

“We have filed a review petition at the Odisha High Court regarding the court’s order for relocation of SMRC students in Government and other private colleges. Till the court hears our petition, the process of absorption of SMRC medicos should be put on hold,” said girl medico of MKCG.

Meanwhile, medicos of VIMSAR on Thursday also locked their college.
