Continuing their protest against the State-owned Omfed for slashing milk procurement quantity by 30 per cent citing various reasons, angry dairy farmers on Thursday opened the valve of one milk tanker of Omfed. As a result, 14,000 litres of milk spilled over the road at the Gandhi Square here.
Some protestors were also seen taking a milk bath on the road. The incident occurred when milk farmers of Bheden and Atabira Milk Cooperative Societies were protesting against the refusal of the Omfed authorities to accept milk on the ground of adulteration on Thursday.
When they saw the Omfed tanker carrying milk from Barpali was returning to the Omfed plant, they stopped the vehicle and opened the valve of the tank.
Omfed Sambalpur general manager Kishore Kumar Nayak said the milk of the Bheden and Atabira farmers was returned as it was adulterated with sugar and salt.
Meanwhile, farmers alleged that the rejection of milk brought by the farmers to the Omfed had been a daily affair and it was the outburst of the pent-up angeron Thursday.
On the other hand, Omfed authorities lodged an FIR against those who destroyed the milk.
