Aggrieved Ayush doctors to launch protests from Aug 27

The State’s 1,450 Ayush doctors would wear black badges from August 27 to register their protest against the Government’s apathy towards their demands of pay hike and regularisation of services.

General secretary of the State Ayush Doctors’ Association Tapan Kumar Das told the media here that these doctors have been appointed on contractual basis for the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

They discharge their duties in remote villages under hazardous conditions but are paid a very low salary, which is less than that of Junior Engineers and Accountants working under the NHRM.

Besides, the pharmacists and other healthcare support staffs are getting much more than them. While their counterparts in other States are getting salary ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per month, they are paid a mere Rs 12,000, Das said.

The State Government has constituted a three-member committee to look into the grievances of the Ayush medicos and file its report at the earliest. In the meantime, three months have passed, but the committee is yet to file its suggestions, Das rued.
