A'garh colleges locked in protest against Block Grant

Published on:

After the Block Grant schools all over the State locked up their institutions since August 10 and are demonstrating before the Assembly for full Grant -In-Aid (GIA) with service conditions, it is now the turn of college teachers who under 662 Brand locked up their institutions on August 20 and staged a dharana on the MG Road in the State capital with a same demand for GIA.

Further, another group of college teachers under 488 Brand aggrieved over Block Grant are also planning to hold cease work from August 24 and hold stir on the day before the State Assembly.

According to sources, the 662 Brand colleges cater to the educational needs of over 60 per cent students getting higher education in Plus II and Plus III mode in the State. Yet, the teachers and employees working in the institutions are given Block Grant in which neither they get full salary not there is any service condition. Though these employees have already worked for about 20-25 years and have approached the Government for regularization of their job, the latter has been procrastinating over the matter, lamented the 662college teachers’ association.

Besides, the Government has not spent a single pie for better infrastructure in these institutions despite the fact that their admission intake capacity was enhanced by 20 per cent this year. With surplus students, these colleges are struggling to create required infrastructure like class room for them.

The parents of these students here have condemned the Government’s apathy towards mitigating the problems of the institutions and the staff.  Some student leaders told this paper that they would also demonstrate at their respective colleges and would block the nearby

NHs soon, if the Government fails to fulfil the demands of their teachers.
