Students of the Gopabandhu Science College here on Tuesday urged the college principal to provide them adequate teaching faculties and to take steps for washing of the classrooms, lecturers’ hall, library and reading rooms which have turned happy homes for spiders, betel spit and white ants over the years.
Almost all departments, especially Commerce, are lacking adequate faculties and hence they are suffering a lot, the students told the principal. However, the principal sidelined their demands, the students said. “Quality education is a daydream as most of the lecturers are engaged in nasty politics,” said some students. They lamented that the college authorities are least bothered to create a congenial reading atmosphere in the college. They alleged that though the college has no legal land records of its establishment lakhs of UGC money meant for construction of infrastructures and other expenses are being embezzled. They said they would soon send a memorandum to this effect to the Union HRD Minister and resort to democratic agitation to stress for their demands.
