In a repeat of the recent incident in Nilgiri of Baleswar district, in which the dead body of a child was carried on a trolley-rickshaw which sent shockwaves across the State, the body of a girl was carried on a stretcher after being denied a mahaparyan vehicle here on Monday.
Sources said a girl had been rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital after she slipped in a water body. But the doctors declared her brought dead. Her relatives requested the hospital authorities for a Mahaparayan vehicle. But as the authorities declined, finding no other alternative they loaded the body on a stretcher and left for their village.
However, in front of the Kandhamal Superintendent of Police office, the Town police stopped them and thankfully arranged a vehicle to transport the body. locals have demanded accountability to be fixed for the incident and the guilty hospital officials be punished. Meanwhile, Kandhamal District D Brunda has ordered an inquiry and asked for a report within two days on the incident.
