AG audit begins into Sambalpur Varsity scam

Published on:

A team of officials from the Accountant General (AG) office has begun an audit in the Sambalpur University (SU) after getting complaints of financial irregularities in the NSS department.

A team led by senior auditor Pabitra Mohan Samanta will find out the irregularities where the involvement of the Controller of Finance to the UCO Bank officials is alleged.

As per information, it was alleged that Rs 47.74 lakh has been transferred to the account of a particular staff through bank cheques on six different times of the NSS department during the tenures of two Controllers of Finance such as Khetrabasi Manseth and Arka Keshari Das.

While there are irregularities in issuing so many cheques to one person, the bank in the campus has also a role in it. Hence, a special audit is going on by the AG office auditors to find out the involvement of the persons in such a transaction to the tune of almost half a core of rupees, the university sources informed.

After getting the allegation, an inquiry committee was formed in the university.  But it has failed to perform its duties and it seems to favour the two Controllers of Finance. “When it has issued show cause notices to the junior staff, it has not done the same in case of these two officials who are the signatories in the cheques at different points of time,” sources added further.

However, the elite public of Burla and Sambalpur demand a Crime Branch inquiry to this sensitive issue where half a core of rupees have been swindled by corrupt staff and the inquiry agencies are rather trying to hush up the matter.
