After HC censure, Govt files modified affidavit

Rectifying her mistake, State School and Mass Education Secretary Ranjana Chopra on Friday filed a fresh affidavit in the Orissa High Court along with a compliance report stating that the Government has disengaged the contract teachers, who were given appointments after June 11, 2015 in violation of court orders.

“This deponent (Chopra) has issued necessary orders on 20/11/2015 directing the Director of State Higher Education to disengage all the contract teachers, who were engaged/appointed after 11/06/2015,” the Secretary said in the fresh affidavit after the High Court had rejected her affidavit filed on Thursday.

The court had expressed anguish and castigated the government over Chopra’s Thursday affidavit in which she had made an attempt to shift the blame on the High Court for the current disengagement of the contract teachers in the State.

Along with the affidavit, the Secretary also filed a compliance report as per the earlier order and urged the court to drop the contempt proceedings initiated against her. A Division Bench of the court will hear that matter further on December 1.
