The Vigilance police on Friday arrested K Mohan Patra, Assistant Engineer (AE) of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Umarkote, for allegedly demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000.
Vigilance sources said Patra had demanded the illegal gratification from contractor Banambar Panda for passing a running account bill of Rs 18,58,775 in a piped water supply project at Phulbhatta village under Dabugam block of Nabarangpur district.
Panda lodged a complaint in this regard with the Vigilance police, following which a trap was laid by the Vigilance sleuths.
Patra was caught red-handed by the officials when he was receiving the money from the complainant and later arrested. The bribe amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
