DIG at Sonepur to expedite investigation

Expressing resentment over the failure of the police in nabbing the assailants who brutally murdered Dr Durbadala Mishra, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Subarnapur District Headquarters Hospital on Sunday night, the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) has threatened a State-wide cease-work agitation.

“It is matter of utter shame that the police are yet to arrest the criminals after two days of the brutal incident. We have decided at our general body meeting to launch a State-wide cease-work and mass agitation if the culprits are not arrested within 48 hours,” said OMSA president Dr Chandan Gadanayak and secretary Dr Kishore Chandra Mishra at a Press briefing here on Monday. The incident has outraged the medical fraternity who have threatened to take the matter further.

Among others, OMSA vice-president Dr Debi Prasad Mishra, district president Dr Pradip Guru and Chief District medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Sarat Chandra Majhi were present on the occasion.

On Tuesday, Northern Range DIG of Police Prateek Mohanty rushed to Sonepur from Sambalpur and held parleys with the local police officers with a view to expediting the investigation into the murder and apprehending the culprits without further delay.

Meanwhile, the body of Dr Mishra was cremated on Monday after the post mortem.Though the police have intensified their investigation, they are yet to get any trace of the murderers

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the assailants had earlier planned to open fire at Dr Mishra. But as they failed in their effort, they killed him by slitting his throat open in front of his house. At least four to five assailants committed the crime, police said.
