The district administration of Baleswar is in a tizzy as fear of flash floods looms large following swelling of rivers. The rivers, Subarnarekha and Jalka flowed above the danger levels while the Budhabl-anga, although below the danger mark, was above the warning level and rising steadily.
About 3 lakh cusecs of water has so far been released from the Chandeli dam into the Subarnarekha, said sources. As more rains are expected in next 24 hours due to a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal and the sea will remain in spate also owing to full moon effect.
Due to the overflowing of Jalka water, the road communication at several places near Mathani and Darada between Basta and Baliapal has been disrupted. The Subarnarekha floods have posed a serious danger for Bhograi, Jaleswar, Basta and Baliapal,
Two ODRAF teams, one each for Jaleswar and Basta, have been sent and another two are expected to arrive from outside the district for deployment in Bhograi and Baliapal, said official sources. The accumulated rainwater level was seen rising along with NH-60 near Rupsa.
