Admissions in IGH Medical College soon: Union Min

Admissions in the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) Medical College and Super specialty Hospital would be taken up soon, assured Union Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to Rourkela BJP MlA Dilip Ray during their meeting at New Delhi on Saturday.

Ray along with Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Sundargarh MP Jual Oram had called on Tomar to get updates on the progress of the process to upgrade IGH to a full-fledged medical college and hospital. Tomar apprised them of the steps taken.

It may be noted here that since 2008 when SAIl observed its golden jubilee, a common demand from various trade unions, political parties and social organisations here has been to upgrade the IGH to a medical college. Again in their meeting in October 2012 at Bhubaneswar, the then SAIl Chairman CS Verma agreed with the proposal of the Odisha Chief Minister to consider on the proposal. But during his visit to Rourkela in January 2015, the Union Steel Minister had rejected the proposal in presence of Verma.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his maiden visit to Rourkela on April 1 last to inaugurate the modernisation units of the Rourkela Steel Plant had announced that IGH would be upgraded to a medical college hospital.
