The Adhunik Metaliks Karmachari Sangh an affiliated workers’ body of CITU has strongly opposed the Adhinik Metaliks ltd management’s decision to lockout its Chandriharipur, Kuarmunda unit from Friday. To mark their protest, the workers coming in a procession under the leadership of union leader Bishnu Mohanty submitted a memorandum to the Rourkela Deputy labour Commissioner (DlC) and urged for necessary steps for reopening of unit soon at the earliest.
According to Mohanty, after its establishment in 2002 the company has earned a good market and grown many fold within this period with the cooperation of employees and workers. “About 2,000 employees and 3,000 contract labourers are engaged in the company. With the closing decision around 25,000 peoples will be affected directly and indirectly,” said Mohanty, urging the DlC to instruct the management for reopening of the unit and take early step for disbursement of pending salaries. Notably, couple of weeks ago the employees demanding their long pending salaries have gheraoed the plant authorities in the plant premises for a night.
