A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave his nod to a new Police Commissionerate for Rourkela, the demand to include Rajgangpur police station under the proposed Commissionerate has gained momentum.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Rajgangpur Municipality Chairperson Sushreeta Paikray urged to include Rajgangpur police station within the proposed Police Commissionerate.
Justifying her demand, she mentioned that the Rajgangpur Police orbit comprises of Rajgangpur Municipality area and Rajgangpur block area having more than 1.5 lakh population. Besides, 10 km of SH-10 comes under it. As it is an industrial locality, every year more than 300 cases are registered in the police station.
Apart from this, the Kansbahal outpost, which is now under Rajgangpur police station, would be within the proposed Commissionerate. So for maintaining better law and order in Rajgangpur area, it would be better to include it in Rourkela Police Commissionerate, Paikray added.
Writing another letter to the Chief Minister, Rajgangpur Bar Association president Purna Chandra Pattanaik mentioned that the traffic problem and law and order situation in Rajgangpur is getting worse day by day.
So it would be better to include Rajgangpur in Rourkela Police Commissionerate. He also threatened to resort to agitation if the Government cold-shouldered on the issue.
Similarly, BJD State Council member Jeetu Das and Rajgangpur BJD president Amresh Panda said they would bring the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister soon.
