Adarsha Vidyalayas deficient of infra, teachers

Eight girl students of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV), Jamkani under Tarbha block in Subarnapur district, were injured after a
Bollero jeep they were travelling in collided with a bike near
Mahulpali chowk on the Tarbha-Menda road.

Reportedly, the Bolero was on its way from Jamkani to Menda when the
mishap occurred. The locals rescued the injured persons and rushed
them to a nearby hospital. Even as the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya(OAV)
scheme of State Government was implemented in Subarnapur district in
the current academic session, the schools are functioning without
adequate infrastructure and basic facilities.

The schools have started functioning in six blocks of the district.
Sources informed that the Model Schools in Binka, Dunguripali,
Ullunda, Birmaharajpur, Sonepur, Tarbha blocks are facing teething
problems. Most of the school buildings are not ready yet as far as
infrastructure is concerned and none of the hostel buildings has been
completed. Even in some blocks, the construction works for the schools
have not started yet. Posting of English medium teachers is yet to be
done.

The OAV Model School at Jamkani is about 16 km from Tarbha block
headquarters. Here drinking water is a big problem. There is poor road
communication facility to Jamkani and the hostel has not started yet.
The students from far-flung areas are forced to make their own
arrangements, for which they are facing road mishaps often.
