Men’s rights activists on Tuesday demanded formation of a State Commission for Men to uphold their dignity, rights and identities. They took the occasion of the International Men’s Day (IMD) to highlight their issues and demands here at Mahatma Gandhi Marg by staging a demonstration.
The activists who gathered under the aegis of the Samaj Suraksha Manch decried the ongoing atrocities of men by women.“Nobody is worried about issues of men. Not a single study has been undertaken to look into issues faced by men at domestic level ,” said Manch convenor Byomakesh Tripathy, adding that while men are not against laws protecting women, what they want is a Purusa Commission (State Commission for Men) to look into the issues men face. “
“We too want laws to protect men against various types of abuses including verbal, emotional, economic, physical and sexual at home as well as at the workplaces,” said Tripathy.
“We urge both the Union and State Governments to understand the realities we men are confronted with and to ensure enacting laws and setting up of a Purusa Commission to provide protection to us,” said Tripathy.
