A social activist of Kaintha village under Chikiti block in Ganjam district has slammed the district administration and the State Government for their step-motherly attitude towards the village in all fronts.

Citing various irregularities, Behera said though a school having 160 students, mostly SCs and STs, had been established in the village 50 years ago, it is yet to have a playground. Repeated demands by villagers in the matter of public interest have always remained unheard, he alleged.

“The village having 500 houses is yet to have a tube well or well for which the villagers are forced to walk miles to Govindpur village everyday for drinking water. Though the village has two tanks, the Government has given the tanks on lease for fish culture causing pollution to the tanks’ water”, he said.

Behera further alleged that even though a hundred of villagers were provided shelter during the Phailin, the villagers are yet to construct their houses due to non-release of Government assistance. Moreover, the mothers of new born babies are not provided Government assistance under the ‘Maa Mamata Yojana’.

The social activist demanded a thorough probe into all these irregularities and misappropriation of funds under of different welfare schemes.
