A team of vigilance officials led by DSP PK Nayak brought many irregularities to light on the matter of construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
During the raid in Charpali panchayat of Bargarh district, it has come to light that 27 beneficiaries have taken money although they have not constructed toilets for use.
“Simply these persons in connivance with departmental officials and members of the SHGs have swindled the money with fraudulent practice,” Vigilance sources said and added that the Department was preparing to take actions against those who are involved in the scam. As per information, monetary sanction was made in the year 2015-16 for construction of 42 toilets for 42 beneficiaries. But 10 persons took money without constructing toilets. Similarly, in the year 2016-17, 17 persons did the same. “Construction of toilets was assigned to two SHGs of the district namely- Maa Saraswati and Meerabai SHG. But in connivance with the beneficiaries, the SHGs and some departmental officials, misappropriated the money,” DSP Nayak informed.
