Workers of the Action Ispat have begun a fast-unto-death in front of the district Collectorate here from Tuesday. The workers of the company's Pandaripathar plant which was recently shut down claim that they haven't received their salaries for the last eight months.
Similarly, many contractors from the district are also awaiting their outstanding dues. The factory management has deserted the plant premises without declaring a lockout. This has left workers and staff in the lurch as they are still visiting the plant to register their attendance.
The workers said they have already apprised the district administration about the issue multiple times. As a response, the administration on multiple occasions called a joint meeting of the factory management and workers to resolve their issues. However, every single time the management failed to send a representation.
With no response from the company management or any efforts by the company to reach out to them, the workers have now staged a fast unto death as a last resort to make their plight heard. When contacted, district Collector Bibhuti Bhusan Patnaik said efforts are already underway to locate the company's management failing which the administration would pursue a legal recourse against the company.
