Action against NIRTAR Accountant sought

The Kalinga Bikash Manch on Saturday demanded departmental action against Rajkishore Nayak, an Accountant at the Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR), Olatpur, who is behind bars since June 9 for allegedly embezzling Rs 5 crore from the accounts of Zilla Swasthya Samiti (ZSS) of the National Health Mission (NHM), Subarnapur.

In a letter addressed to Anjali Bhawra, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of Government of India, Manch president Deepak Kumar Mahanta mentioned that though Nayak was arrested, the SVNIRTAR authorities have not suspended or dismissed him from service as yet despite rules say any Government servant who is behind bars for 48 hours or more is to be suspended from service.

Mahanta requested the Secretary to inquire into the circumstances under which Nayak was appointed in CRC, Balangir, and later allowed to work in the SVNIRTAR.

The letter also said Nayak was selected for the post on a contractual basis.  However, he was found to work in the regular post of Accountant in SVNIRTAR instead of CRC, Balangir.
