An accused, Binat Naik, ran away from the police custody while he was taken to a local court here on Monday. The police began a manhunt to nab the accused but could not trace him till evening.
Naik was not handcuffed between the short distance of jail and court van, sources said. Naik was involved in 11 cases including five cases in the Baliguda police station, three cases in M Rampur, one case in Muniguda and two cases in Bhubaneswar railway police station.
In the Baliguda case, he was involved in Raghunath bus dacoity and snatching money from a VlW, while he had assaulted grievously a doctor and looted his property in the M Rampur case. The accused belongs to Christian Sahi of Barasehma under the Baliguda police limits and had been arrested on May 19.
