Again, the recent killing of a doctor in Khandagiri area came out to be a case of revenge. In his first statement to the Commissionerate Police, Sneha Swakhyar Samal, accused in the triple murder case on October 14 last, said he was angry with deceased doctor Atulya Chandra Meher regarding treatment of his daughter.
Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr RP Sharma said on Thursday that Samal had taken an appointment from Dr Meher on October 3 for a health check-up of his daughter. After the check-up, the detail report came on October 9 and he again met the doctor on October 10.
The CP narrated that Samal got to know from all health reports that his daughter was normal. The accused thought that he spent money unnecessarily due to the doctor and that thought gradually led to hatred and hostility in his mind against the doctor. The collective anger against the doctor prompted Samal to eliminate him forever, he added.
Dr Sharma said Samal then collected various details about the doctor, his family and relatives and chalked out a plan to kill Dr Meher. The accused had come up with a sharp weapon on October 13 evening to Dr Meher’s house to eliminate him, but failed. Again on October 14 early morning, he came with sharp weapons and successfully executed his plan, he added.
Meanwhile, the CP said that the accused was not mentally deranged. “He is not a psycho. He never visited any psychiatrist. We will interrogate the accused and deceased doctor’s wife to get more information regarding the murder,” said Dr Sharma.
Notably, the accused, who too was injured during a scuffle with the persons he attacked and killed, is undergoing treatment in the Capital Hospital in the city.
