The Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh (RKMM), State unit has filed a petition at the Jajpur district Collector’s office, demanding that the administration recognise the death of a farmer in Barpada village under Binjharpur block as a suicide.
Ramakant Malik, a farmer of Barpada village, had allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree on November 11 after being unable to bear the loss of paddy crop due to torrential rains and floods. The administration investigated the incident but did not provide any assistance to his family. Family members of the deceased farmer along with many farmer leaders led by Mahasangh president Sachin Mohapatra move to the Collectorate and submitted the memorandum.
They warned to besiege the Binjharpur block office on October 16 if the demand is not met by then.
