Absence from duty: 29 MKCG docs issued notice

Published on:

During the Medical Council of India (MCI) team’s visit to the MKCG hospital here in October 2016, 29 doctors including senior resident doctors and junior doctors were found to be absent from their duties.

The MCI team expressed deep concern over the incident and asked the State Government to submit a report over it. Subsequently, the Health Department asked MKCG Superintendent Arun Kumar Dandpat for a show cause within seven days.

However, after seven months of the incident, the State Government has begun the process to take action. According to the DMET instructions, the 29 doctors have been issued notices. While there is a demand for increasing the seats in the medical college, the doctors’ absence has proved their negligent attitude towards the students and the patients.

The MCI team which had approved the increase of 100 seats during the academic year 2016- 2017 during its visit to take stock of the infrastructure in the institution, found a few Professors ,Assistant Professors and Junior Doctors were present. The team also came to know about the shortage of doctors in the elite institution.
