The incidents of child lifting are increasing in Bhubaneswar. To make matters worse, in most of the cases acquaintances and distant relatives have been found involved in the crimes.

In such an incident, an 11-year old child from the Jagamara area under the Khandagir police station in Bhubaneswar was abducted by three persons including two women on April 26.

However, the act of lifting the boy was recorded on the CCTV camera installed in the area.

Reports said the accused took the child with them from his home by luring him to give ice cream. The child believed the abductors as they were his neighbours and went with them.

Subsequently, the abductors took him to Patrapada and later to Odogaon in Nayagarh district.

When the child didn’t return home for a long time his mother Mama Jena after a frantic search lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station.

Based on the complaint, police launched a search operation and rescued the child from a bus at Pubusahi near Khordha.

All the three accused Geetanjali Das, Sarojini and Gobardhan Sahu were arrested. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing. Geetajali had allegedly accepted Rs 40,000 from Gobardhan to sell the boy.
