Abanti BJD candidate; Cong picks Baba Sethi

Incumbent Chairperson of Tihidi block Abanti Das was on Wednesday declared by the BJD as its candidate for the Dhamnagar Assembly by-election.

It is interesting to note that the BJD did not repeat its old candidate but chose a new and woman candidate for the fray. Party sources said Abanti was selected due to her vast experience in SHG activities.

The Congress also on the day announced Baba Harekrushna Sethi as its candidate for the upcoming by-election to the Dhamnagar Assembly constituency in Bhadrak district.

The by-poll is necessitated by the demise of Dhamnagar BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi on September 19.

The BJP has already fielded Suryabanshi Suraj Sthitaprajna, son of Bishnu Sethi, as its nominee for the by-poll.

The by-election will be held on November 3. The counting of votes will take place on November 6 and the results will be announced the same day.
