AAP to oppose MP CM's Bargarh visit

The State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party has expressed deep concern over the Mandsaur firing incident in Madhya Pradesh in which nine farmers were killed. The party would oppose the visit of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Bargarh on June 15, said AAP Odisha spokesperson Ranga Charan Pradhan at a Press conference here on Saturday.

After the NDA Government came to power at the Centre, farmers’ suicide has increased by 42 per cent, he said.

The Modi Government had assured before the elections that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) would be increased by one and a half times and it would implement the Swaminathan Commission report. But an affidavit submitted by the Government to the Supreme Court states that it cannot do the same, which is betrayal of the farmers’ community.

The State Government and the two opposition parties are also not showing any interest to solve the problems of farmers, Pradhan alleged.

In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik competed with each other holding farmers’ rallies in Bargarh and made many tall promises that the income of farmers would be doubled by 2022.

According to reports, in 2012-13, the farmers’ monthly per capita income was `6,400, but it has declined to `1,700 in recent years.
