AAP supports homeless city slum dwellers

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers on Sunday provided drinking water, medical facilities and food to more than 70 homeless slum dwellers of Jagannath Ambatota slum here who were evicted last week.

The joint eviction team of BDA, BMC, GA and Idco officials evicted them as they were staying on Idco land. However, they were not provided with basic minimum facilities, like shelter, food and water.

A group of AAP volunteers led by party State unit secretary Brad Mishra on Sunday arranged drinking water, food, ambulance service to the homeless people. The volunteers also sent four heatstroke affected persons to hospital.

Meanwhile, the slum dwellers filed an FIR against the authorities for carrying out the demolition drive illegally in violation of a court order imposing Section 144 in the area.

AAP State convenor Dr Dhanada Kanta said the party would stand by the people.

He also lamented the ruthlessness and insensitivity of the administration and said a complaint would be filed at the State Human Rights Commission on Monday to this effect.
