The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday staged a demonstration at Khordha in protest against the land Acquisition (Amendment) Act Ordinance brought by the Central Government recently.The party termed the ordinance as unconstitutional, pro-corporate and anti-people.
“The BJP, while in opposition, had supported the 2013 amendments in the Parliament and now it has taken a U-Turn on its own commitment,” said AAP State secretary Bharadwaj Mishra. He said while the 2013 Act was framed on consultation with all stakeholders on recommendation of two Parliamentary Standing committees and that too the both were by senior BJP leaders, Kalyan Singh and Sumitra Mahajan, it is not understood the rationale behind the amendments.
“We feel that this has been pushed by corporate houses and, thus, the interest of the poor has been ignored,” he said. Stating that illegal land acquisition is now a burning issue across the nation, he said the amendment would potentially take out powers from the Gram Sabhas and hand over more liberty to some land mafias.
