The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday slammed both the Congress and the BJP for making poll promises to expedite the disputed Polavaram project if voted to power.“To woo the voters of Seemandhra both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi have shown uncanny interest in the Polavaram project although Odisha and Chhattisgarh have filed cases in the Supreme Court against the project,” an AAP Press release said.
It alleged that the project violates the tribal rights in the scheduled area, undermines the Forest Rights Act and poses threat to the ecosystem. Stating that a major part of Malkangiri district’s Motu block would be submerged in the project, the AAP lamented that no talks have been taken up on the rehabilitation issues either.“AAP Odisha strongly opposes such undemocratic and anti-people move of the Congress and BJP and vows to protect the interest of tribal people of Malkangiri,” the release said.
