While the Opposition Congress and BJP are up in arms demanding interrogation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other BJD leaders in the chit fund scam, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday demanded that the CBI expand its scope of probe and inquire into political funding of the BJD, BJP and Congress.
“The chit fund scam is only a tip of the iceberg that is overpowering our electoral system and democracy. We demand that the scope of the inquiry be expanded to include the political funding of elections so that the rotten ‘cash for vote’ can be addressed at once,” said AAP leader Prafulla Mishra in a Press release.
He stated that after the CBI quizzed the CM’s confidant Saroj Kumar Sahu and bank transactions carried out by him, it is becoming clear that illegal and unaccounted for money is obtained through scams like chit fund, mining and land scams, etc., and the same have been used for election victory of the ruling party.
The Chief Minister should take moral responsibility for the chit fund scam and step down to facilitate an impartial and speedy completion of the inquiry, he said.
He said the the government should bring in transparency and accountability in the State affairs.
