The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Sambalpur has demanded swift action against the corrupt officials in the market yards of Dhama and Huma, the way officials were taken to task in the CM’s helicopterincident in Jaypore.
The mistake and irresponsibility of the officials of the Works department led to unprecedented delay in landing of the helicopter of the CM in the targeted place.
As part of quick action, the concerned executive engineer was suspended on the same day.
AAP office bearers Abhijit Guha and Trilochan Patnaik said, “In Sambalpur, we also demand similar exemplary and instant action against those officials in the market yards at Dhama and Huma who are playing with the fate of the farmers of the district and encouraging corruption.”
They further alleged that there has been rampant corruption in payment of crop insurance to the farmers of the Huma and Dhama panchayats of the district. At the same time, corruption during paddy procurement of the current and previous season was also at the peak. They need to be suspended immediately, they demanded.
Due to faulty report of the officials, the farmers had to incur immense loss in getting crop insurance. Further, during procurement, these officials manipulated many things to their personal gain. But some officials in the Government are protecting these corrupt people, alleged the AAP leaders, warning that the party would take to streets if the Government does not take immediate action against the corrupt officials.
They further said that the Government needs to change its policy for Sambalpur and Bargarh districts as to sale quota of paddy per acre of 18 quintals in irrigated and 12 quintals in non-irrigated area. Since production is more in the Hirakud command area, the per acre paddy quantity for sale should to be increased; otherwise farmers will face distress sale, they added.
