The case of students of a Government primary school studying under the open sky in Sundargarh district makes a mockery of the huge spending in primary education under Sarva Siksha Scheme (SSA) claimed by the Government.
Khutgaon primary school is situated at Khutgaon under lahunipada block in Bonei sub division. The students from Class -1 to Class-V in the school, about 93 in number, are reading under the open sky as the rooms are dilapidated.
There are three teachers in the school. Of the six classrooms in the school, five are in dilapidated condition. Consequently, the students of the school have been suffering a lot.
Significantly, a team comprising a Junior Engineer, Assistant Engineer, CDPO and ABEO had visited the school in 2013 and after looking into the dilapidated condition of class rooms, they had declared it unsafe. But thereafter there has not yet been any repair work or any new construction.
“I have been working in this school as headmaster since one and a half years. We have been facing lot of difficulties due to non availability of classrooms,” said headmaster T Biswal of Khutgaon school.
“I have informed District Project Coordinator, SSA, Sundargarh about the urgent requirement of class rooms in this school,” said Block Education Officer (BEO) Aladini Naik of lahunipada block when asked.
DPC, SSA, Sundargarh Amulaya Kumar Pradhan said that he had informed about the matter to the district Collector and hoped that the repair work of the class rooms will be started soon.
