The Covid-19 death toll surged to 531 with nine more deaths reported in the State on Friday. Balangir, Cuttack, Ganjam and Khordha districts (one in Bhubaneswar) reported two deaths each while one casualty was reported from Rayagada district.
“Regret to inform the demise of nine Covid positive patients while under treatment in hospitals,” the Health Department said in a tweet.
The deceased included an 18-year-old boy and a 75-year-old man of Balangir, a 90-year-old man of Bhubaneswar and a 70-year-old man of Khordha, a 50-year-old man and a 67-year-old man of Cuttack and a 70-year-old man and a 50-year-old man of Ganjam.
The other causality was a 52-year- old woman of Rayagada district.
And on the day, the number of Covid positive cases rose to 1,16,678 with 3,267 new cases detected from all 30 districts. Out of the new cases, 1,961 were detected from quarantine centres and the rest 1,306 were local contacts.
Khordha district reported an all-time single-day highest cases of 859 followed by Cuttack 384, Rayagada 169, Puri 235, Bhadrak 138, Mayurbhanj 134, Sundargarh 127, Bargarh 120, Keonjhar 107, Ganjam 97, Nabarangpur 85, Koraput 83, Sambalpur 80, Nayagarh 70, Jagatsinghpur and Subarnapur 66 each, Angul 60, Kendrapada 51, Boudh 44, Balangir 43, Nuapada 40, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi 37 each, Kandhamal 27, Jajpur and Deogarh 23 each, Dhenkanal and Gajapati 18 each, Malkangiri 17 and Baleswar nine.
However, another 2,980 patients recovered in the State on the day, taking the total recoveries to 90,331.
The highest 654 recovered in Cuttack district, followed by Khordha 263, Ganjam 212, Mayurbhanj 207, Sambalpur133, Balangir126, Nayagarh and Puri 114 each, Baleswar 111, Koraput 103, Kendrapada 91, Bargarh 87, Angul and Keonjhar 80 each, Rayagada 76, Dhenkanal 75, Sundargarh 68, Jharsuguda 67, Bhadrak 64, Malkangiri 61, Jagatsinghpur 38,
Nuapada 37, Kandhamal 33, Gajapati 25, Nabarangpur 21, Jajpur 20, Kalahandi 10 and Deogarh and Subarnapur five each.
