As many as 89 multistoried apartments constructed illegally in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area would be demolished, informed Housing and Urban Development Minister Puspendra Singh Deo in the State Assembly on Friday.

The Minister said this in response to a question of BJD MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain.

Singh Deo informed that the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has given permission for construction of a total of 938 multistoried apartments in the BMC area since 2009 of which 339 apartments have been found constructed in violation of the BDA norms. Cases have been registered against these apartments as per the Section 91 (1) of the Odisha Development Authorities Act 1982; and so far, orders have been issued to demolish 89 apartments, he said.

To a related question of BJD MlA Debashis Nayak, the Minister said no action would be taken against those families which have no lands or houses of their own and got a house or a plot or a flat under the discretionary quota in the twin city in a fair manner. But families which have taken more than one plot and house despite having a house or a plot of their own would face action. Their allotments are being cancelled and cases are being filed against them as per law, the Minister added.
