The State Government would appoint 837 more regular doctors and deploy 92 more 108 Ambulance to streamline the healthcare system, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena here on Monday.
As advised by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Minister highlighted the department’s three years’ achievements before mediapersons here.
Jena said the Government has enhanced the proposed recruitment to MBBS seats from 450 to 837. He said classes would begin at two new medical colleges in Baripada and Koraput from the current academic sessions.
“We will add 92 more 108 Ambulances from the State’s own funds. This apart, efforts are on to appoint 837 more regular doctors through OPSC,” Jena told reporters.
Jena claimed that the State has experienced the sharpest decline in the infant mortality rate (IMR). “Now, the IMR has come down to 40 per 1,000 births,” the Minister said.
