Finally, after a long gap of about 12 years, the State Government has decided to fill up 800 posts of lecturers in 97 Government colleges within three months ahead of the General Elections. This was decided in a review meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat here on Saturday.

According to Higher Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, a recruitment process for 535 posts has already begun. The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has been asked to select the deserving candidates, he said. Among these 535 posts, 272 are for junior colleges and 281 are for degree colleges, Patra added. Though the recent recruitment of lecturers is not enough, given the mounting vacancies, yet it is expected to go solve the teacher shortage crisis in many Government colleges, said sources. Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra, Development Commissioner I Shrinivas, and Higher Education Secretary Gagan Bihari Dhal, among others, were present.
