'80% Jagamohan repair completed'

Published on:

Submitting a status report on the ongoing repair work of the prayer hall (Jagamohan) of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Thursday told the Orissa High Court that 80 per cent of the work is over and the remaining work would be completed soon.

A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices BK Nayak and DP Choudhury, however, asked the ASI counsel to file the status report in the form of an affidavit by August 3, the date fixed for next hearing of the PIl filed by Cuttack-based social activist Abhisek Das.

The HC also asked the State Government and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to put forward their views on the status of the Jagamohan repair in an affidavit before the next date of hearing. Both the State Government and the SJTA are the respondents in the PIl.

There are widespread resentments over the condition of the Jagamohan and on the protracted delay in its repair. The common view is that the Jagamohan repair work should end soon without further delay.
