A 30-year-old- man was arrested on Thursday night on the charges of raping an eight-year-old tribal girl at Haridabahali village under Kaliapani police limits here.
According to IIC Raisen Murmu, the accused was identified as Bijaya Munda of Tentulia village. On Thursday evening, while the victim girl was playing in the village, Munda called her to a lonely place on the pretext of giving her a chocolate and raped her.
The victim girl was found in an unconscious state near a bush in the village. Some villagers managed to nab Munda while he was trying to flee from the village after committing the heinous crime. “We arrested him after the father of the victim girl filed an FIR against Munda,” the IIC said.
Police arrested the accused under Sections 376, 294, 506 of IPC and 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012. The victim girl was reading in Class II in the village school. Police said there were injury marks on the girl's body. She was immediately rushed to a Government hospital in Danagadi, where doctors confirmed that she was raped.
Munda was produced in a court at Jajpur road, where his bail application was rejected and he was remanded in jail custody.
