An eight-year-old tribal girl was killed in Jajpur district on Thursday evening after she resisted a probable rape attempt.
"We arrested a 16-year-old boy on the charge of murdering Mani Mahanta, daughter Pradip Mohanta of Rangiguda village after the father of the victim girl filed an FIR on Thursday and alleged that his daughter was missing. During an investigation, the police recovered the body of the victim girl at a hillock in Bagasadei village on Friday. The accused tried to rape the girl and in the struggle that followed, she was throttled to death,” said Kalinganagar IIC Jyoti Prakash Panda. After committing the heinous crime, the accused managed to flee from the village. But he was arrested at Ragadi village on Friday. The victim girl was reading in class three in a village school. The accused will be produced in the district Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) at Jajpur town on Saturday.
