8 N'pada PRI representatives sacked on 2-child norm

The district Collector of Nuapada has dismissed three sarpanches, a panchayat samiti member and four ward members from their posts on the ground of violating the two-child norm.

The three sarpanches are Kusham Sahu, laldhar Bhoi and Jagan Kata respectively representing Dharambandha GP of Nuapada block, Ghantiguda GP of Sinapali block and Ranimunda GP of Khariar block. The samiti member Satyabhama Bhoi belongs to Makhapadar GP of Sinapali block and the ward members are Pitabasha Majhi of Khudpej, Chandrdhwaj Bag of Chandel and Sunidhi Bariha and Balaram Patel of Bhaleswar village. The suspended representatives are of the view that the two-child norm is a violation of their human rights. “It is a discrimination; when Members of the legislative Assembly and Parliament have right to participate in elections even if they have more than two children, why there is this bar for us,” they have questioned.
